Quit button does not quit

Hi Philipp,

Just thought I'd mention this in case you don't have the same behaviour on your phone...

On my phone (a Moto G4 with Android version 6.0.1, and previously Android version 6.0) when I press the quit button, the game appears to quit but when I press the square button on my phone, an instance of it is still shown in memory. When I tap the window for that instance, the app is still there, fully working.

So at the moment the way I exit the app is to press the quit button, then press the square button on my phone to show apps in memory, and then I press the X in the top corner of the window for Alite, to close the window.

Unless...

Unless you know of a solution to the problem, this is by 'design': Android does not allow quitting of applications manually. They're just sent to the background. At least -- apart from hacking in a System.exit -- which would not properly clean memory...

Function of the red button

Hi Philipp,

I've assumed the way to quit is by pressing the quit button, then closing the instance on my phone in the same way I do with other apps.

But are you implying that the quit button doesn't do anything, and I can just close the app in the normal Android way, wherever I am in the game?

If so please explain: what is the function of the quit button?

Wow

That was probably a bit irksome for you... displaying a button that doesn't actually do anything!!

I find it a bit frustrating myself... especially as I've been carefully pressing it, thinking it was probably best practice to do so, to avoid crashing the game.

Can I request an option to hide the button?

Perhaps it should be hidden by default, as it doesn't do anything ;-)

Not quite...

It actually does something: it puts Alite in a state where it can safely be disposed from memory. So while you still have to remove it from memory manually, the quit button ensures that you _may_. So, if you buy something and hit quit, instead of pressing home, I'd guess that your cargo stays intact (not tested though).

Now I understand

So it turns out the way I was quittting the app was correct all along!

Thanks for the explanation Philipp.
